The City of St. Augustine is inviting its community to show some selfie love for their city by participating in a national selfie competition on August 12, blending civic engagement with a touch of fun. This city-wide invitation is open to all residents, business owners, and community stakeholders who want to capture a moment with municipal landmarks or city staff. As mentioned by the City of St. Augustine, participants are encouraged to post their selfies on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, tagging @FlCities, @ELGLNetwork, and @CityStAug, and using the hashtags #CityStAugSelfie, #CityStAug, and #CityHallSelfie.

The Energizing Local Government Leaders Network, in collaboration with the Florida League of Cities, is spearheading this light-hearted competition, which the City of St. Augustine has embraced since 2017, when they first shared photos featuring their own staff. Now, they're looking to add a touch of community spirit to the mix, with this year's aim being inclusivity and fun. They have a history of winning awards in categories like best pet, most historic, and funniest. The City’s Communications Director, Melissa Wissel, shared an enthusiastic message: "We would love to see residents and businesses post selfies on Facebook and Instagram in front of any of our buildings… stop by the fire department, police station, marina, or City Hall.  And really anyone can do it, not just locals!  Everybody loves a good selfie, and we would love to win another award!" The vibe is clearly welcoming for a competition that's both a nod to civic pride and a call to creative expression.

City Hall Selfie Day is designed to highlight St. Augustine’s public services and leadership. The event is open to everyone and includes various locations for selfies, such as City Hall, the Financial Services Center, Fire Station, Willie Galimore Center, Middleton Archaeology Center, Police Station, St. Augustine Municipal Marina, Visitors Information Center, Water Treatment Plant, and the Wastewater Treatment Plant/Solid Waste Division. Participants are welcome to take selfies with costumes, props, pets, friends, or family. A video from 2023 is available to provide examples and ideas for participation.
