A 62-year-old St. Augustine motorcyclist lost his life on Thursday after an accident on State Road A1A in Flagler County. As reported by News4JAX, the Florida Highway Patrol confirmed the incident occurred just before 1 p.m. when the motorcyclist’s bike veered off the road and overturned.
The identity of the motorcyclist has not been released, but the Florida Highway Patrol stated he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, which occurred during a southbound trip on A1A. Despite the helmet, the crash was fatal. Action News Jax also reported on the incident, noting that the collision took place at the intersection of SR A1A and Old SR A1A. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.
Initial reports of the accident mentioned a truck involvement, but this was later clarified. A FlaglerLive update, issued an hour after the crash, stated that a tractor-trailer was not involved and that the truck did not remain at the scene. The update also noted that despite prompt response from a caller and emergency personnel, the motorcyclist was found without a pulse and was pronounced dead by a paramedic at the scene.
The incident took place near the entrance to the Las Casitas subdivision, the site of a previous fatal crash in 2017 involving Gary Robert St. Peter and drunk driving. In this recent case, no immediate cause has been identified. According to FHP data reported by FlaglerLive, this is the third motorcycle fatality in the county this year. The county has recorded over 750 crashes in 2025 so far, with more than 460 involving injuries.
