Officials in St. Charles Parish, including Parish President Matthew Jewell and members of the council, turned the first shovels of dirt today to mark the start of Phase III of their water system upgrade, a crucial push towards refurbishing the aging water infrastructure along LA-18, also known as River Road. According to St. Charles Parish's announcement, this project underscores a broader agenda to overhaul the entirety of the parish's water delivery, from the sources all the way to the faucets in residents' homes.

Jewell declared the initiative "an important investment" in making sure local taps spout clean, dependable water, as mentioned on the St. Charles Parish website. The latest phase involves swapping out some 4,800 linear feet of old cast iron pipes for new PVC ones, the labor beginning near Hahnville and stretching from Fashion Boulevard to Annie Lane on the River Road shoulder, works expected to conclude in December of this year, the road's use affected but managed under guidelines to keep the traffic flowing, utilizing flaggers as needed.

The contract for this leg of the water main replacement has been granted to Barriere Construction, LLC through a competitive bidding process, culminating in a proposal of $779,876.10, winning out for the task at hand. Engineering expertise was provided by Hebert Engineering, ensuring that the most up-to-date technical standards are met throughout the project's duration.
