Yesterday afternoon, a confrontation between Stafford police and a suspected robber ended in the man's death. The incident, which involved a foot chase and the suspect allegedly threatening officers with a knife and a brick, occurred after a series of 911 calls described a man matching his description.
As per KHOU, the sequence of events began to quickly unfold at around 3:15 p.m. when officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Avenue E. A second caller soon reported to have seen a man, later identified as Miftau Oladipo, carrying a large knife and crossing FM 1092. A subsequent report from the 7-Eleven at 2919 North Main Street linked Oladipo to an aggravated robbery, providing officers with a description that he appeared to match.
Oladipo was located near Avenue E and Shady Brook Drive, but fled when officers attempted to make contact, leading them on a pursuit. "The suspect armed with a large kitchen knife and a brick began charging at officers," according to a statement from the Stafford Police Department quoted by KHOU. An officer deployed a taser, which proved to be ineffective, after which a second officer fired their weapon, striking Oladipo.
Efforts were made to save Oladipo's life, but the 35-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by Click2Houston. The Stafford Police Department has since been actively investigating the incident, with assistance provided by the Texas Rangers, the Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office, and the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner’s Office.
