
Graffiti takes center stage at the Coral Springs Museum of Art with the debut of "Style Masters: The Birth of the Graffiti Movement," an exhibition that traces the origins and rise of this gritty, expressive art form. Opening on Friday, July 18 and running through Saturday, October 4, the display is a partnership with the Museum of Graffiti and features over 150 original works curated by graffiti expert Alan Ket, showcasing the evolution from New York City streets to a global artistic staple, as per the City of Coral Springs.
According to a statement by Alan Ket, the exhibition celebrates the groundwork laid by graffiti pioneers such as Blade, Phase2, Futura, Crash, Quik, JonOne, and Lady Pink, whose contributions have played a pivotal role in reshaping contemporary art, it also honors local South Florida talents like Reds, Disem, Weerdo, and Tragek who contribute site-specific murals, illustrating graffiti's enduring influence as an active cultural force.
Museum Director Juliana Forero emphasized the significance of the genre, stating, "This exhibition brings the vibrant, unapologetic energy of the streets into the heart of our Museum." In a nod to the art form's commercial appeal, the showcase will feature a pop-up gift shop offering graffiti-inspired merchandise, deepening the art's cultural impact and allowing visitors to take a piece of the movement home with them, as detailed by the city's official announcement.
An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, July 18 from 6 to 9 PM, welcoming the public to immerse themselves in the bold and rebellious world of graffiti art the museum members have the opportunity to get an exclusive sneak peek during the Members Only Preview earlier that evening from 5 to 6 PM, RSVPs can be made on the Museum's website for those wanting to attend.
