
A man suspected of engaging in a shooting on South Highway 85/87 has been apprehended, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office reports. The incident, which resulted in gunfire and property damage to a local gas station, occurred on Thursday. According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, deputies promptly arrived at the scene near 4140 S. Highway 85/87 following a disturbance call at 11:18 AM.
After surveying the area and finding a slew of shell casings, deputies, along with the Colorado Springs Police Department's Tactical Enforcement Unit and Violent Fugitive Apprehension Team, initiated an extensive search for the suspect. Despite these efforts, described as being comprehensive by authorities and having taken place with diligence, the manhunt initially came up empty. The victim involved in the ordeal was discovered at a nearby business, appearing with minor injuries, fortunately.
With the help of witness descriptions and detective work, 23-year-old Miguel Mayo was named as the suspect and apprehended the day following the shooting, on July 25. Charged with menacing and reckless endangerment, Mayo was booked into the El Paso County Jail, as stated by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. After posting a $2,000 bond, reports indicate that Mayo has since been released.
