Authorities are on the lookout for a suspect involved in a carjacking incident that targeted an off-duty NYPD officer in the Bronx. As reported by ABC7NY, the theft occurred late last night around 10:50 p.m. on Ward Avenue, located in the Soundview neighborhood.
An individual, whose identity remains undisclosed, confronted the 27-year-old officer and seized his Chevy SUV by force. At the time of the carjacking, found near the scene was a Ford SUV with front-end damage, which is now under investigation by the police and might be linked to the episode.
Fortunately, according to the same report by ABC7NY, the officer was unharmed during the confrontation. The stolen vehicle was subsequently found in New Rochelle, apparently involved in a collision, suggesting a frenzied escape after the crime was committed.
No arrests have been made in connection with the case as of now. The motive and circumstances surrounding the carjacking are still being pieced together by the authorities. A statement from a separate coverage by PIX11, confirms an ongoing investigation into the incident, a story that shakes our sense of safety, knowing even those charged to protect are not immune from the city's caprices of crime.
The NYPD urges anyone with information about the suspect to come forward, as the search for the perpetrator continues.
