
A tragic incident occurred in Huntington Beach early Sunday morning when a 21-year-old driver, suspected of DUI, struck and killed a pedestrian. The collision took place around 12:43 a.m. at the intersection of Atlanta Avenue and Delaware Street, as reported by Huntington Beach Police Department in their press release.
The pedestrian, a 35-year-old man from Huntington Beach, was found unconscious by the authorities and was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the black Audi RS5 was suspected of impairment and was arrested without incident. Investigations by HBPD's Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) are ongoing, and witnesses with further information have been urged to come forward, according to the same press release.
As details of the event emerged, Huntington Beach Police they arrived and discovered the victim in the street, reported CBS Los Angeles. Paramedics were immediately called to the scene, but their efforts could not save the pedestrian's life. The suspect has not been publicly identified at this time.
The tragic loss of the 35-year-old man underscores the perilous consequences of driving under the influence. The involved driver, from Orange, was unharmed in the collision that occurred just east of the intersection. The authorities are earnestly seeking information from the public, "Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it is encouraged to contact HBPD Traffic Investigator V.
