Tragedy struck Cleveland last night when two teenagers were shot, one of whom succumbed to his injuries. The incident happened near the 2500 block of East 49th Street, and the Cleveland Police Third District responded to the scene shortly before 7 p.m. after receiving a call about shots being fired, according to News 5 Cleveland.

The officers arrived to discover two young boys, believed to be about 15 and 16 years old, with gunshot wounds. In an attempt to quickly attend to the victims, Cleveland EMS transported them to local hospitals. Unfortunately, the older teen was later pronounced dead. The shooting occurred near a complex managed by the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority in Cleveland's Central neighborhood. The younger teen was taken to UH Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in serious condition. "Our Homicide Unit detectives are on the scene, actively investigating to learn more," Cleveland Police Sergeant Freddy Diaz stated in a statement obtained by WKYC. The names of the teens have not been released, and no additional information is available at this time.
