A tragic incident yesterday has left the local Grandville community in mourning following the death of a teenage boy. According to WOOD TV, Michigan State Police discovered the body of a 16-year-old boy on eastbound I-196 near the 44th Street overpass at approximately 11:50 p.m., the victim of a hit-and-run.
The teen, described as a white male with brown hair, was clothed in a white T-shirt, gray basketball shorts, and white Nike shoes when he was found. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The authorities were initially alerted to the crash, and on arrival, they found that the driver who had hit him had fled. No description of the suspect vehicle has been released. Michigan State Police are actively seeking the driver responsible for this incident, WZZM 13 reports.
The eastbound lane of I-196 where the incident occurred was closed for approximately three hours for investigation, reopening around 3:30 a.m. this morning. Troopers from the Michigan State Police are asking the public for assistance. They seek witnesses or anyone with relevant information that could lead to understanding how the teen ended up on the freeway and the circumstances leading up to his death.
