New Orleans roadwork seems to be a never-ending cycle of repairs and closures, and here's the latest heads-up for local drivers and residents: Eton Street will become a temporary no-go at portions of MacArthur Boulevard starting next week. The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works has announced that from Wednesday, July 23, at 7 a.m., Eton Street will see intermittent closures along the 5300 to 5400 blocks of MacArthur Boulevard.
The closures are a necessity to allow the contractor Hardrock Construction Co. LLC to carry out street repairs, which fall under the DPW775: Right of Way Improvement Concrete Project. While this may inconvenience some, it's heartening to note that local access will be maintained throughout the duration of the works. And if you're in the habit of parking along those blocks, start looking for alternative spots—parking will be prohibited where the crews are hard at work, as clearly indicated by "no parking" signs that'll be posted ahead of time, as mentioned on the City of New Orleans website.
Drivers in the area are advised to plan their trips accordingly and to make use of alternative routes until the repairs are completed. Traffic control measures are set to be in place to guide commuters safely around the construction zones, as reported by the official announcement. This will include signage, cones, and fencing to ensure not just the safety of drivers, but also that of pedestrians navigating the area.
