Tennessee's job market shows a period of stability, with its unemployment rate maintaining at 3.5% for the consecutive third month. This steady rate contrasts with the higher national unemployment rate of 4.1%, although the latter has seen a slight decrease from the previous month, as reported by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
Over the last year, the state of Tennessee has seen an addition of 22,900 nonfarm jobs, primarily in Government, Leisure and Hospitality, and Education and Health Services sectors. June's figures indicate an increase of 6,100 jobs, with Professional and Business Services showing strongest growth, followed closely by Education and Health Services and Trade, Transportation, and Utilities.
In an initiative to further this employment growth, particularly in early education, Tennessee is launching its first Early Childhood Education Apprenticeship Hub. As per the official announcement, "through Lipscomb’s Foundations to Futures program, aspiring educators will have a fully funded path to earn a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education while gaining experience as paid apprentices at sites like Little Wonders Early Learning Center in Nashville."
With 470 active apprenticeship programs in existence, the state continues to utilize such hands-on training to not just educate, but also imbue potential employees with the relevant skills necessary for today's job market. Details on the county unemployment data, which further shed light on the local impacts of these statewide numbers, will be released on July 24.
