A Texas City High School teacher is currently behind bars facing charges of online solicitation of a minor, following allegations that he attempted to arrange a sexual encounter with someone he believed to be a 15-year-old girl, who was in reality an undercover detective. John Derrick Taylor, age 55, is not only a math teacher but also coordinates the power-lifting team for both boys and girls at the school. He was arrested at his home in Manvel by detectives from the Harris County Precinct One Constable's Office, a member of the Houston-Metro Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, as reported by FOX26 Houston.
Details following the arrest reveal that Taylor is accused of engaging in explicit online conversations and sending explicit photos through a social media application, including discussions about taking the minor to a hotel, as per a KHOU report. The arrest came as a shock, occurring after he had spent time working with students at the high school's field house. It also brought to light his previous employment history in various other districts in the region, including Fort Stockton in West Texas.
Amid the grave allegations, Constable Alan Rosen expressed his dismay in a statement obtained by KHOU, "It is especially unfortunate that a teacher would be involved in such alleged despicable acts." Reaffirming a stark warning he added, "No matter who they are or where they roam, predators are subject to being pursued by our detectives."
