
Three NYPD officers were assaulted late Friday night while responding to a reported assault in Brooklyn's Coney Island neighborhood, according to police. The incident, which occurred just before midnight close to Surf Avenue and Stillwell Avenue, left the officers with minor injuries.
ABC7 New York reports that the officers were attempting to intervene in an assault when they themselves became the targets of violence. Two officers were punched in the face and chest, and a third was struck in the head with an unknown object. The nature of the initial assault call that they were responding to remains unclear.
The injured officers were transported to the hospital where they were listed in stable condition. Meanwhile, police investigators have taken two individuals into custody in connection with the assault on the officers.
