Early this morning, a significant incident unfolded on Interstate 376, commonly referred to as Parkway West, as a tractor-trailer carrying frozen food items rolled over and erupted in flames near Pittsburgh International Airport. According to WPXI, the accident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. when the truck, having taken a curve too fast, met its fiery fate. This resulted in major traffic disruptions with the parkway reduced to one lane in the vicinity of the incident.
Following the crash and subsequent fire, the eastbound lanes of I-376 were shut down completely, causing considerable delays for morning commuters. WTAE reported on the aftermath, which was captured by Sky 4, the city's exclusive news helicopter. Emergency personnel thronged to the scene, focusing their efforts on managing the fire and beginning the cleanup process. However, amidst the chaos of the morning's events, it was confirmed that no one was harmed in the crash.
Lane closures persisted throughout the morning, with crews managing to pry open one lane of traffic shortly before 7:00 a.m., according to WTAE. Emergency responders quickly got the situation under control. The cause of the rollover is still under investigation. Drivers were advised to take alternate routes or expect delays as traffic slowly returned to normal.
