In a tragic turn of events, a 1-year-old girl lost her life after being run over by a riding lawn mower in Lenawee County. The accident occurred around 4:50 p.m. on Sunday in Woodstock Township, where first responders arrived at the 11000 block of Herold Highway following the emergency call, according to the Lenawee County Sheriff's Office, cited in 13abc's report.
The child's grandmother, a 52-year-old woman, was mowing the lawn at the time and was unaware the child had been outside. The deputies determined that this tragic oversight resulted in the accident that ultimately took the child's life. The child was then rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. These details were gathered from an account provided by WXYZ. The Addison Fire Department and Somerset Fire Department also assisted at the scene, as The Detroit News reported further.
While specifics on the child's identity remain undisclosed, local authorities and involved emergency services are providing support as the community reacts to the devastating incident. Tragically, lawnmower accidents like this are not as infrequent as one might hope; citing information from Children's Mercy, a pediatric health center, The Detroit News notes that around 85,000 injuries and approximately 70 fatalities are caused by lawn mower accidents each year across the United States, with children being a significant portion of these alarming statistics.
