The aftermath of the flash floods that ravaged sections of Travis County has seen local authorities feverishly engaged in search and recovery operations. The Travis County Sheriff’s Office, working in concert with local agencies, has been relentless in its efforts since the floods struck the area on July 5. Detectives from TCSO have been meticulously working with the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office to document and investigate each death resulting from the catastrophe.
Recently released information by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, and available on their official website, confirms the identities of several victims from the flood. Among the deceased, all hailing from Leander, TX, are Dan Dailey (67), Virginia Watts Dailey (66), Betty Massey West (84), and August Panning (50). Also identified was a 17-year-old female from Marble Falls, TX. Ongoing efforts are being made to positively identify three additional recovered bodies and notify their loved ones.
As the community grapples with the loss, the sheriff’s office has ensured to not let up in supporting those affected. "My heart goes out to the families and friends of those who lost their lives. We will not waver in our efforts support the community during this difficult time," was the statement issued by the sheriff’s office in the wake of this tragedy. At present, eight bodies have been recovered, with four individuals still reported as missing.
Travis County authorities have been persisting in their efforts to provide closure to families and to eventually bring to safety any possible survivors. The implications of the flood for the Travis County region will likely linger as the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
