
Early Saturday morning in San Marcos, an incident of gun violence near Texas State University resulted in two fatalities. CBS Austin reports that following the event, San Marcos police confirmed the deaths and disclosed that several individuals have been taken into police custody.
According to a CBS Austin release, the shooting occurred near the intersection of San Antonio Street and Guadalupe Street. In the wake of the tragedy, law enforcement maintained a significant presence in the area, with initial traffic disruptions expected to last for several hours.
A statement provided by the San Marcos Police Department indicated, "Several people have been detained and there is no ongoing threat to the public." This message, aimed to assuage community concerns, was also confirmed by KSAT. Further reporting detailed that by approximately 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, the streets were reopened to the public.
The San Marcos Police Department is actively seeking assistance from eyewitnesses or anyone possessing images or video footage of the incident. "Anyone with information, pictures or video of the shooting is urged to contact San Marcos police," KSAT noted, echoing appeals for community collaboration to aid the investigation.
