Two men are fighting for their lives in a Houston hospital after a suspected drug deal led to a shootout yesterday evening, with the violence unfurling in the northern stretches of the city, near the orbit of the North Freeway and Crosstimbers Street.
The first emergency calls came at around 8:30 p.m., drawing Houston Police to a scene gripped by the immediacy of gunfire and chaos, there they discovered one man gravely wounded in a car marked by a telltale bullet hole it was near a taped-off section of an Ojos Locos restaurant parking lot, as reported by Click2Houston. Accompanying the injured man in the vehicle was another who seemed intoxicated, authorities like HPD's Lt. Larry Crowson are pressing this witness for information.
The ordeal escalated when another shooting victim appeared at a Whataburger location not far from the initial bloodshed. This person, too, had met the harsh bite of a bullet. He was hastily accompanied by an unharmed man after the blue Mazda they were in ran out of gas during their presumed rush to find medical aid. Lt. Crowson has divulged to KHOU an expectation that both men will pull through despite their critical injuries.
According to investigators' early conclusions, gunfire was exchanged during a botched drug deal linking the destinies of the two sets of men, "We believe this was a drug transaction that went wrong," Crowson said, as noted by KHOU. "There was an exchange of gunfire and that’s how both victims were shot.” Houston Police have recovered the abandoned Mazda and are now reviewing witness statements and surveillance footage to solve the case. No arrests have been made, but questioning continues as the investigation moves forward.
