Two separate incidents at Lake of the Ozarks yesterday resulted in the deaths of two Missouri men. In the first incident, a 50-year-old man from Florissant drowned after his kayak overturned. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 10:15 a.m. near Possum Hollow Cove at the 0.3-mile marker of the lake’s Gravois Arm. FOX2Now reported that the individual did not resurface and was later recovered by a dive team.
Later that day, a second incident involved a 46-year-old man from Deepwater. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the man entered the Niangua River around 3:15 p.m. while attempting to assist other swimmers. During the effort, he submerged and did not resurface. A report obtained by KSDK provided details on the recovery of the victim's body, although no further information on the circumstances necessitating the man's intervention was made available immediately following the event.
Local authorities have not released the names of the victims but confirmed that next of kin have been notified. As FirstAlert4 noted, the incidents bring the number of drowning fatalities this year within the jurisdiction of MSHP Troop F to at least three.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate circumstances surrounding the drownings, and MSHP Troop F is tasked with oversight of the region.
