It was a busy Wednesday for the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, as two people were arrested after separate high-speed motorcycle chases just hours apart. According to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office official news release, the first incident involved a rider speeding eastbound on Highway 69 from Prescott toward Prescott Valley around 8:00 p.m. A deputy made an attempt to stop the motorcyclist who, instead of pulling over, engaged in a high-speed chase, flouting the basic principles of road safety. After a pursuit that saw the motorcycle weaving dangerously through traffic, the suspect was later apprehended at a residence. The man, named Robert Plamondon, was booked on multiple charges including felony flight and reckless driving.
Earlier in the day, another motorcyclist decided to tempt fate. Around 2:00 p.m., a deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop on Willow Creek Road. Mirroring the earlier case, this second rider—identified as Peyton Proper—also chose to flee, racing toward the Prescott Airport area at speeds that mocked the law's limit. Deputies later located Proper and his motorcycle in the parking lot of a nearby business, as he unsuccessfully attempted to stow the bike in the bed of a pickup truck. He too faces charges of felony flight and reckless driving, as reported by the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.
The day's events bring into sharp relief the very real dangers of high-speed pursuits. "Dangerous driving and high-risk behavior behind the wheel endanger everyone on the road and can lead to serious injuries or death," a statement from the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said. The successful capture of these two riders is a testament to the coordinated efforts of Yavapai County Sheriff's Office deputies and partner agencies in ensuring that such perilous actions do not go unchecked on their watch.
