Following heavy rainfall and consequential flash flooding in the Texas Hill Country, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has deployed emergency response teams to assist with the crisis. The teams, which include members from various specialized units, are currently aiding in search, rescue, and recovery efforts, a vital measure in the aftermath of the sudden deluge that hit the area.

CBP's swift mobilization took place on Friday, July 4, bringing together personnel from BORSTAR (Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue), the Office of Field Operations, and Air and Marine Operations helicopter aircrews. These units are well-versed in dealing with such calamities, with backgrounds that align with the needs of this emergency. “CBP is committed to the safety of our communities and will contribute our unique capabilities when asked to assist state and local authorities to respond and to recover from this devastating flooding,,” stated Nason Hinman, Patrol Agent in Charge of Del Rio Border Patrol Sector’s Special Operations Detachment, as reported by CBP's newsroom. Hinman is spearheading CBP's flood response in the region.

The deployment is part of CBP's larger commitment to public safety and national security, showcasing the agency's readiness to extend its reach beyond its usual border duties. With a history of responding to various natural disasters including hurricanes, and various flooding events, CBP's experience is an asset to both recovery operations and the provision of immediate aid.

As the largest law enforcement agency in the nation, CBP's workforce of over 65,000 men and women are tasked with protecting America's borders both on land and in the air and seas. The agency, recognized as the world's first unified border management entity, plays an integral role in facilitating lawful travel and trade – which is vital for the country's economic prosperity. In moments of crisis, such as with the Texas floods, CBP personnel are often among the first responders, working towards remedying the plight with a dedication that reflects their broader commitment to the nation's well-being and security, according to their press release.
