University of Memphis basketball player Sincere Parker was arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend. On June 12, the woman told Memphis Police that during an argument on May 27, Parker pushed her, slapped her, and choked her, causing injuries. Parker, who recently transferred from McNeese State, is facing charges of aggravated assault and vandalism of property under $1000, according to Action News 5.
The incident happened in Parker's downtown apartment, where he and his girlfriend were living. The police report says the woman had a busted lip, a bloody mouth, and bruises after the altercation. She went to a hotel for safety and later returned to her home state. She met with investigators on Tuesday and gave information that led to Parker's arrest, as reported by Commercial Appeal.
Parker, a 22-year-old athlete and former senior guard at McNeese State, was booked into Shelby County Jail without bond on Friday and is scheduled to appear in court on July 21. The police report states that he assaulted his girlfriend, broke her $885 iPhone, and restricted her ability to breathe. The victim told investigators she fears for her safety. "The University of Memphis is aware of the situation and cannot comment on an active investigation," the school told Local Memphis.
