Commuters who frequent US 93 north of Wickenburg are in for a long-haul construction scenario that kicked off recently, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has confirmed. In a bid to ensure smoother journeys in the future, a $27.5 million pavement improvement project has begun, focusing on refurbishing a 13-mile stretch of the troubled roadway.

The project scope, according to ADOT, will see old asphalt stripped away and fresher, flat pavement laid down, beginning near Moore Ranch Road close to milepost 185, and reaching northwest to milepost 172. The revamp extends beyond mere resurfacing, with plans detailing the replacement of guardrails, end terminals, a bridge deck repair, and new pavement markings. True to most infrastructural overhauls, when the sun dips and the moon rises, the bustle of machinery will echo as crews take to the night, Monday through Friday, keeping daylight disruption at a bare minimum, yet the occasional daytime and weekend work is not off the cards.

Motoring through the zone will be a practice of patience and caution, the highway narrowing to a single lane to accommodate alternating north- and southbound traffic. Flaggers and a pilot car will emerge as daytime sentinels, guiding vehicles through the zone of transformation. ADOT charts the course of completion for the project to spring 2026, marking the end of this necessary inconvenience.
