A Vallejo man, Darren Mitchell, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for gun and drug offenses. Mitchell, 35, was convicted after a trial of possessing methamphetamine and firearms, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
During a five-day jury trial, evidence showed that Mitchell had negotiated to sell 1,000 methamphetamine pills. The deal was arranged with a buyer who later testified against him. After the deal, federal law enforcement agents searched Mitchell’s home and found methamphetamine-laced pills and an industrial pill pressing machine. The Drug Enforcement Administration was among the agencies involved in the investigation, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Agents searching Mitchell’s residence found narcotics, a loaded AR-15 rifle, and a Smith & Wesson pistol with its serial number removed hidden inside a dishwasher. Two infants were present during the search. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Cameron Desmond and Sam Stefanki prosecuted the case, as stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
