Vallejo authorities have apprehended a homicide suspect linked to the July 5 death of a woman who was found unconscious and later pronounced dead from a gunshot wound. The suspect, Jose Guadalupe Castillo, 42, was arrested on Wednesday after an investigation by Vallejo’s Police Department identified him as the primary suspect.

According to the official press release from the Vallejo Police Department, the victim received emergency medical assistance in the early hours of July 5 but succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital. Castillo, who was already out on bail for a firearms-related offense at the time of his capture, was spotted by officers on Admiral Callaghan Lane and attempted to duck into a convenience store to evade law enforcement. A firearm with an extended magazine was found in the same aisle where Castillo had been briefly.

Following his arrest, Castillo faced charges for several felonies, including second-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. It was noted that at the time of the arrest, Castillo was under bail conditions for a prior incident involving firearm discharge and possession.

The Solano County District Attorney’s Office has since reviewed the evidence and pressed charges against Castillo. Detectives from the Vallejo Police Department are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward. They have provided contact details for Detective Jarrett Tonn and Detective Daniel Callison in their public release.
