After nearly seven years on the run, 23-year-old Dakarin Arnett, wanted for a 2018 homicide in East Memphis, was apprehended by U.S. Marshals and Memphis Police. As reported by WREG, Arnett faces first-degree murder charges for the fatal shooting of Jerald Holiday Jr., discovered dead on September 23, 2018, at the intersection of Kaye Road and White Station Road. Initially, after the investigation, a warrant for his arrest was issued in 2022, thrusting him into the spotlight of a manhunt, WREG details.
When the crime was committed, Arnett was merely 16 years old. FOX13 Memphis highlights that his encounter with the juvenile court occurred a year after the murder, but he was subsequently released. This transition of the case to adult court precipitated his flight, with Arnett eluding capture until now, according to FOX13 Memphis.
Local Memphis reports that the arrest took place at an apartment unit in the New Horizon Apartments, executed without incident by the marshals, in conjunction with the Memphis Police Department's Fugitive and TACT Unit. Arnett was also wanted on additional warrants for aggravated assault and domestic assault, Local Memphis reports.
While in custody, the U.S. Marshals highlighted the collaboration involved in apprehending Arnett. The fugitive found himself finally cornered at a house in the 1800 block of Wessex in Whitehaven, a location steeped in the quiet that juxtaposed the gravity of his alleged crimes, as reported by WREG. A court date is slated for Monday at 9 a.m., where Arnett will face the charges that have long cast a shadow over his young life, per WREG's account.
