Warren police are on the hunt for a driver whose haphazard spillage of nearly 175 gallons of antifreeze has left the city with a hefty cleanup bill. The incident took place shortly before dawn on Tuesday morning on Eight Mile Road close to Van Dyke Avenue, which borders Detroit. The cleanup and emergency response necessary due to the spill has racked up a cost surpassing $10,000, as reported by ClickOnDetroit.
As per security footage, the culprit appears to be a black Ford pickup truck, sporting a trailer carrying the substantial container of antifreeze. The vehicle was last seen traveling northbound on Van Dyke Avenue toward Stephens Road. Importantly, there are no environmental or health risks from the spill, thanks to quick action and containment. Nonetheless, the Wayne County Road Commission had to close the road temporarily for cleanup operations, as noted by CBS Detroit. Police are now analyzing security video and utilizing other electronic resources in their search for the errant driver.
Details from the Warren Police Department illuminate the sequence of events, marking the approximate time of the spill at around 4:19 a.m. First responders were alerted to the incident around an hour later, finding a large, empty plastic container, notable for its lack of any identifying company markings. This clue may stymie the efforts to quickly recognize the driver responsible for the spill. Anyone with information about the black Ford pickup with a yellow cage in the truck bed is asked to contact the Warren Police Department. They are working to find the person responsible and urge tips to be directed to Detective R. Addis at 586-574-4771 or [email protected], as per a report by FOX 2 Detroit.
