Police in Washington, D.C., have arrested a man in connection with a June robbery. The Metropolitan Police Department reported the capture of 31-year-old Jason Benitez-Umanzor, who was charged with armed robbery after officers on patrol identified a suspect matching the description of the individual wanted in the case.
The 1400 block of R Street, Northwest, was the site of the crime, which took place on the night of June 20. A person reported being accosted by a suspect armed with a handgun, who demanded their possessions. Following the victim's cooperation, the assailant fled. Last Friday, during a routine patrol, Benitez-Umanzor was spotted by Third District officers and was subsequently taken into custody.
An official statement released by the police department explained, "On Friday, July 4, 2025, during their routine patrol, third district officers located an individual matching the suspects’ description."
Further inquiries are ongoing, and the MPD encourages anyone with information about the robbery to step forward. Policymakers are hoping that up to $1,000 offered as a reward may incentivize potential witnesses to assist in the investigation.
