Motorists navigating through Oakland should prepare for disruptions beginning this weekend as pivotal paving work commences on Forbes Avenue, linked to the University Line bus rapid transit project. Representing a sign of progress on a major transportation initiative, the Pittsburgh Regional Transit informed the public that two lanes will face intermittent closure over the coming weekends to facilitate the road's restoration.
The improvement efforts, set to begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, August 1, and continue until 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, will necessitate the shutdown of the right lane across multiple segments from Craft Avenue to Bigelow Boulevard, as reported by WPXI. Although the work zone is concentrated on the right lane, the proximity of construction equipment will also obstruct the center lane, leaving only one available lane for vehicular passage.
Given the scope of the project, there is a temporary hold on parking and stopping along the impacted sections of Forbes Avenue. As outlined by CBS News Pittsburgh, disruptions continue with the suspension of bus service at the stop on Forbes and Craft, though other bus routes along Forbes Avenue persist without change.
The network of side streets between Craft Avenue and Bigelow Boulevard mostly remains traversable, with flaggers present to direct the mutable currents of traffic. Pedestrians, whose movement is less impeded by the roadwork, can still access sidewalks and crosswalks. Then on the following Saturday, August 9, paving procedures will replicate in the right lane from Schenley Drive to Schenley Drive Extension, with more specifics forthcoming.
