Charlotte and Rock Hill authorities are piecing together the details following separate officer-involved shootings within a single 24-hour span. The first incident, unfolding in Rock Hill, South Carolina, left an armed woman hospitalized after a confrontation with law enforcement.

According to reports by WBTV, the Rock Hill Police Department was assisting York County deputies with a traffic stop at around 6 p.m. yesterday when the woman reportedly discharged a weapon from her vehicle and aimed at deputies. Negotiations failed to yield a peaceful surrender, culminating in a Rock Hill officer wounding the woman in the arm.

WCNC detailed the preceding events, where the York County Sheriff's Office stated that the woman had been firing from inside a Jeep and later pointed the gun at an approaching deputy. A pursuit ensued, and it was along Sturgis Road where an officer shot the woman in the shoulder. She received medical attention and was then taken to a hospital, where she remains in stable condition. Interestingly, neither her identity nor the officer's has been released.

Additional context from QC News noted that K9 units and SWAT members were also called to assist. After the tires of the vehicle were deflated using stop sticks, the woman halted on Cheryl Lynn Drive, and, despite several attempts by deputies to negotiate her surrender, remained unresponsive, leading to the use of lethal force by one Rock Hill officer. Law enforcement officials were unharmed during this incident.

The York County Sheriff's Office, alongside the Rock Hill Police Department, have invoked the protocols of their respective agencies and have engaged the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) to conduct an independent investigation into the shooting incident.
