A tragic incident unfolded in Cherokee County this past Sunday night, when a man allegedly killed his wife during a domestic dispute that turned violent. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office stated that 47-year-old Kelvin Williams of Woodstock was taken into custody after deputies arrived at the couple's Daventry Crossing residence to discover his wife, 48-year-old Tenisha Williams, dead from a gunshot wound, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
During the family argument that spiraled out of control, Williams reportedly tried to shoot his teenage stepson but failed, subsequently turning the gun on his wife and killing her, Capt. Jay Baker described to FOX 5 Atlanta. Neighbors were taken aback by the violence, describing the couple as previously cordial with the shooter known to be disabled from multiple strokes, adding an unsettling contrast to the calm that preceded Sunday's fatal shooting.
Present in the home at the time of the shooting were the couple's 16-year-old son, the intended target, and a 4-year-old child, neither of whom were injured, as detailed by Atlanta News First. In the wake of this devastating event, both children have been placed under the protection of the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services.
Kelvin Williams now faces a multitude of charges including murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and first-degree cruelty to children, and is being held at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center without bond. "If you feel threatened, we always recommend people call 911," was the advice proffered by Capt. Baker, insisting on preemptive action in domestic situations escalating towards violence, and reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
