
An overflow incident in east Charlotte has led to nearly 2,000 gallons of untreated wastewater spilling into Briar Creek, according to official reports. The incident, which occurred on Medallion Drive near Kilborne Park was first reported by WCNC today, with Charlotte Water citing the cause as a pipe failure. The exact volume of the spill was estimated to be around 1,850 gallons.
Clean-up crews were dispatched, to mitigate the environmental impact on the creek, known to be a conduit that flows through several neighborhood areas in Charlotte. The area affected is along Medallion Drive, near Central Avenue and Kilborne Drive, as reported by WSOCTV. The break occurred yesterday but it was not until the following day, that the public was notified of the unfortunate mishap.
In the wake of the spill, Charlotte Water has issued a reminder to residents about the precautions necessary to prevent such occurrences. Highlighting the false security given by products labeled 'flushable,' a spokesperson stated to QC News, "Even ‘flushable’ products can clog pipes."
