The Texas-based teen has been on a nationwide mission to collect law enforcement badges and to raise awareness about the heroic efforts of police officers – an endeavor he has managed to ambitiously carry forward even in the face of his medical challenges. According to the New York Post, he's been sworn into more than 1,300 police departments and even had the honor of being appointed a Secret Service agent by former President Trump during a presidential speech to Congress in March.
At a touching ceremony at City Hall, DJ was bestowed with his new title and a proclamation, symbolizing the city's appreciation of his passion for public safety. New York City Mayor Eric Adams commended DJ's dedication by saying, "He has moved across the country doing what he loves, and you know in this city, public safety has always been this administration’s top priority." An itinerary of visits to famous landmarks and NYPD branches marked DJ's day as deputy mayor. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch revealed on social media that DJ got to experience the NYPD's mounted unit and K9s. "First a cop, and now our Deputy Mayor for Public Safety, DJ is working overtime to keep New Yorkers safe," Tisch said, highlighting the teen's commitment to both his ambition and the city's well-being.
