Earlier this month, a shooting in Times Square left three people injured after 17-year-old Jayden Clarke allegedly opened fire. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. announced Clarke’s indictment on charges including attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the Manhattan District Attorney's Office.

The incident took place on August 9 at approximately 1:17 a.m. Clarke was involved in a verbal altercation inside Raising Cane’s on West 44th Street and Broadway, which escalated once he left the establishment. Shortly after vacating the premises, Clarke allegedly fired his weapon at a 19-year-old man, which also resulted in injuries to a 65-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman who were nearby. "As alleged, Jayden Clarke callously fired multiple gunshots in the middle of Time Square – an area with considerable foot traffic and tourist activity," District Attorney Bragg said in a press release. The injuries, as currently reported, were non-fatal but serious.

Details from the DA's Office clarify that after the shooting, Clarke attempted to flee westbound on West 44th Street. He was intercepted and apprehended by NYPD officers who recovered a loaded firearm from his pants. Assistant D.A.s Emily Ching and Sidney Balman III are handling the prosecution with support from other members of the Trial Bureau 60 and the Survivor Services Bureau Advocate.

The quick response of NYPD, particularly the officers of the Patrol Borough Manhattan South Precinct Times Square Unit and the Midtown South Precinct, was acknowledged by D.A. Bragg who thanked them for their assistance, including Officer Andres Nuñez, Officer Vadym Khalos, Officer Christopher Jimenez, and Officer Alejandro Estrada, as well as the detectives from the Midtown South Detective Squad.
