An 18-year-old was arrested during a WNBA game in Phoenix after he threw a sex toy at a man and his 9-year-old niece. According to a report filed by FOX 10 Phoenix, the incident occurred on August 5 and was captured on video, showing Kaden Lopez reaching into his sweater to retrieve the toy before throwing it toward the crowd.
The object, described as a "green dildo," struck the man and then fell near his niece as they were watching the game. The uncle later expressed his wish for prosecution. Police say that after committing the act, Lopez attempted to quickly leave the scene but was tackled by a volunteer and subsequently arrested. He now faces charges of disorderly conduct, assault, and public display of explicit sexual material. In a statement obtained by The Post, the Phoenix Police Department confirmed that the individual had been cooperative with the authorities.
Lopez reportedly expressed remorse, claiming the act was a "stupid prank that was trending on social media," as reported by The Post. This series of incidents appears to be part of a disturbing trend, with similar occurrences at WNBA games in Atlanta, Chicago, and Los Angeles recently making headlines. Players and spectators at these events have found themselves dodging objects that suddenly soar into the seating areas or onto the court.
The WNBA has taken a firm stance against such actions, emphasizing the importance of safety within the arenas. "Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans," the league said in a recent statement. As part of the league's security standards, anyone found to intentionally disrupt a game in this manner will face severe repercussions including ejection, a minimum one-year ban, and potential legal consequences. The decision to eventually prosecute Lopez is pending and will be made by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, confirmed the Phoenix Police Department, as per The Post.
