The Brighton Police Department is currently investigating a vehicle collision that resulted in injuries, involving an 18-year-old driver now facing DUI-related charges. The incident, which occurred on August 10th around 6:15 p.m., took place at the intersection of US Highway 85 and E. 168th Ave., involving a black Cadillac and a silver Ford, as reported by the City of Brighton.
Arriving at the scene, police found the vehicles obstructing the northbound lanes, with witnesses recounting how Victor Contreras Zavala had been driving the Cadillac recklessly on the southbound side before attempting to turn onto E. 168th Ave, which led to the crash with the oncoming Ford. Signs of intoxication were noted by officers on Contreras Zavala at the scene of the collision. Both drivers were transported to Platte Valley Medical Center, where the Ford's driver was identified to have sustained serious injuries.
Following his evaluation, Contreras Zavala was arrested and subsequently booked into Adams County Jail. He faces charges for Vehicular Assault, among other DUI-connected charges. "This case will be reviewed by the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, where the final decision of formal charges will be determined," as officials have announced. According to Colorado law, it is essential to note that an accusation and the filing of criminal charges do not imply guilt, and the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
