Seattle police are on the scene in the Chinatown-International District following a shooting that left a 21-year-old woman injured this afternoon. As reported by the SPD Blotter, the incident occurred around 1:00 p.m. in the 500 block of Rainier Avenue South, where the victim was discovered with two gunshot wounds to her upper back.
The victim received immediate treatment from Seattle police and fire department personnel before being transported to Harborview Medical Center. She is currently listed in serious but stable condition, as noted by the SPD. Details emerged that a verbal altercation in Hoa Mai Park escalated into physical violence, during which the suspect reportedly pistol-whipped and then shot the victim in the back.
The assailant managed to escape the scene before authorities arrived, remaining at large despite police efforts. However, officers part of the Community Response Group arrested an associate of the suspect on an unrelated charge, a man with an outstanding felony warrant for dangerous drugs amounting to $10,075. "He declined to speak to the officers when asked about the shooting," detailed the SPD Blotter.
