
A Honolulu Police Department vehicle and a moped collided early Wednesday morning. A 25-year-old man was seriously injured in the crash on Kapiolani Boulevard near Pensacola Street around 4 a.m., as reported by KITV.
According to KHON2, the Honolulu Police Department officer was driving southbound on Pensacola Street with lights and siren on and "disregarded the red traffic signal at the intersection of Kapiʻolani Boulevard." This caused a collision with an eastbound moped, ejecting the rider, who was not wearing a helmet, and leaving him hospitalized in serious condition.
A police officer was unharmed and remained at the scene after a moped collision. It is unknown if speed, alcohol, or drugs were involved. The Honolulu Police Department’s Vehicular Homicide Section is investigating, and the area was closed for several hours. The moped rider was taken to the hospital in serious condition, and no updates on their recovery have been released, as mentioned by Hawaii News Now.
