
Authorities have made an arrest following an assault incident that took place in Northeast D.C. in late May. The Metropolitan Police Department has announced that on the night of May 30, officers responded to an assault with a dangerous weapon on the 3900 block of Minnesota Avenue. A man was reported to have been attacked by multiple individuals, one of whom stabbed him during the altercation. Fortunately, the victim's wounds were non-life-threatening, and he received treatment at a local hospital after being transported by DC Fire and EMS.
The case progressed on August 1, when an arrest was made. 41-year-old Cornell Shumate from Northeast D.C. was charged in connection to the assault. According to the official statement by the MPD, the arrest was the result of a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, and Shumate now faces charges for Assault with Significant Bodily Injury involving a knife. Despite the arrest, the MPD has clarified that the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
Community assistance has been encouraged by the MPD, which is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that could lead to any additional arrests and convictions.
