A visitor from California, age 52, found himself in need of rescue while on Kauai's challenging Kalalau Trail this past Monday, according to an official press release from Kauai’s local government.
The hiker, accompanied by two minors, was reported to be in distress late Sunday evening, but due to limited visibility and for safety reasons, first responders deferred the evacuation until daylight. The Kauai Fire Department led the rescue mission the following day, beginning their response at around 11:05 a.m.
Rescuers found the trio at Kalalau Beach, where the adult hiker had sustained what appeared to be an ankle injury. They were expediently airlifted by the Līhu‘e Fire Station's Air 1 to Princeville Airport; upon landing, American Medical Response personnel evaluated the hiker, who ultimately refused further medical care.
