An accident on Highway 12 in Solano County has left a 53-year-old man dead and four others hospitalized after a crash that took place last Friday afternoon. The California Highway Patrol reported that the man was driving a Toyota westbound when he lost control, entered oncoming traffic, and came to rest at a right angle to the roadway, ABC 10 reported.
The collision occurred near the intersection of Highway 12 and Highway 113, as confirmed by KCRA. A Nissan then struck the errant Toyota, which led to further casualties. The authorities have stated that the driver of the Nissan and the three passengers were also taken to an area hospital with their injuries currently unknown.
Officials have indicated that seat belts were worn by all parties involved in the crash, which may have prevented further loss of life or injury. While DUI is not suspected for the driver of the Nissan, the investigation continues to ascertain whether it was a contributing factor for the driver of the Toyota. The identification of the man who died has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The collision resulted in an immediate response from emergency services, with California Highway Patrol officers and medical personnel arriving on the scene shortly after 5 p.m. The aftermath of the crash is still under active investigation as CHP seeks to understand the full circumstances leading up to the event.
