A 55-year-old man was arrested in Seattle's Chinatown-International District after he assaulted a woman last night. According to the Seattle Police Department report, officers received a call about a woman screaming at 12th Avenue South and South King Street around 9:55 p.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim, a 55-year-old woman, "moaning in pain and clutching her right arm." She expressed to the officers that she had feared for her life during the altercation. The Seattle Fire Department delivered onsite medical aid and transported her to Harborview Medical Center for additional treatment, as reported by the Seattle Police Department.
Following the incident, an analyst from the Seattle Police Department's Real Time Crime Center reviewed the surveillance footage captured at the location. The video documented the assailant attacking the woman as she sat on a concrete barrier. After initial argument, he proceeded to hit and kick her, with the victim attempting to defend herself and retreat.
The suspect left the area briefly before returning with a pipe, striking the woman once more. The victim can be seen using her right arm to shield herself as the man continues his assault. Fleeing into the street, she was pursued by the attacker before managing to escape. Nearby officers later located the man and took him into custody, booking him into the King County Jail under investigation of assault, as detailed by the Seattle Police Department.
Homicide & Assault Unit detectives are currently handling the ongoing investigation into the incident.
