The Chicago Sun-Times reports the incident occurred Thursday night at approximately 8:20 p.m. on the first block of East 79th Street.
According to Chicago police, a 71-year-old man was hit by an eastbound white car while he was crossing the street "when not permitted." The driver of the vehicle, which had the right of way, subsequently swerved and collided with the CTA bus. Despite the chaotic scene, the driver of the 27-year-old bus and four passengers received medical attention as a precaution, and were all in good condition. Notably, no citations were issued in the aftermath of the crash.
WGN-TV additionally confirms that the pedestrian involved, also injured during the accident, was taken to the hospital and is likewise reported to be in good condition. The driver of the sedan, a 23-year-old man attempting to avoid the man walking in the road, inadvertently initiated the multi-casualty situation by crashing into the CTA bus.
Further statements from the Chicago police described the bus driver, a 27-year-old woman, as having sustained trauma during the incident, but being hospitalized in good condition along with the four bus passengers.
