
The Tampa Convention Center has recently announced a significant staff update: Abed Pompa is stepping up as the new Operations Manager. With a sturdy background in facilities maintenance and engineering, Pompa brings a wealth of experience to the role. Since joining the Convention Center team in May 2024 as the Chief Maintenance Engineer, he has showcased his expertise, which he honed previously at Tampa General Hospital.
According to an announcement released by the City of Tampa, Abed Pompa's resume is peppered with an array of qualifications essential for the operations management role. It highlights a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from USF, a Certified Mechanical Contractors License, and a hands-on knowledge in HVAC systems. His previous role saw him training facilities personnel and crafting technical operations procedures, a testament to his operational dexterity.
The Tampa Convention Center, where Pompa will now oversee daily operations, is a standout venue in the heart of Downtown Tampa, lauded not just for it's prime location but also for its environmental commitment. The center has been recognized with accolades that include LEED Silver for Building Operations and Maintenance Certification, a reflection of its sustainability efforts.
Adding to its celebrated status, the Convention Center has earned several coveted industry merits such as the gold medal for Best Convention Center in the Southeast U.S. from the Northstar Stella Awards in 2024 and 2023, and a Best Convention Center designation in the Smart Stars Awards from Smart Meetings. Notably, the venue marked its 35th year of operation in 2025, an embodiment of the city's architectural and civic evolution.
