The Akron Police Department has turned to the public for assistance in tracking down a vandalism suspect believed to have gone on a destructive spree last week. The events, which occurred on the 30th of July, spanned across multiple locations, including the International Community Health Center, a BP gas station, and the First Congregational Church, all within the 290-300 block of E. Market St. The suspect reportedly used a hammer to cause extensive damage, including smashing out windows and ruining an LED sign.
To identify and apprehend the individual responsible, authorities have released contact information for Detective Sgt. M. Joyner, who can be reached at 330-375-2464, or via the department's anonymous tip line at 330-375-2Tip. A video posted on the Akron Police Department's Facebook page details the request for information from the community. Summit County Crimestoppers is also accepting tips at 330-434-COPS, with the option to text TIPSCO and a message to 274637 for those preferring to remain anonymous.
The local police have taken the unusual step of directly engaging with the population through social media, advocating for witnesses or anyone with knowledge about the crimes to step forward. The Akron PD app offers an additional avenue for tips, accessible by texting Tips411 or visiting the department's website at www.AkronCops.org.
