A suspect has been charged in connection with a downtown Portland shooting that occurred back in June, according to a recent report by the Portland Police Bureau. On June 29, at approximately 4:46 a.m., Portland Police responded to reports of gunfire at the intersection of Northwest 6th Avenue and Northwest Glisan Street. While there were no injuries reported, the potential for violence has led to serious charges against the identified suspect, Marquez Goldsby II, age 21, of Aloha, Oregon.
The Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) of the Portland Police took charge of the investigation, which culminated last Friday when ECST, with the assistance of Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), arrested Goldsby at his residence in Aloha. A search warrant, served by ECST detectives and officers with the PPB Focused Intervention Team (FIT), resulted in the seizure of a firearm, though it was not believed to be the one used in the shooting incident.
Goldsby is facing multiple charges including Attempted Murder in the Second Degree with a firearm, and Attempted Assault in the First Degree with a firearm among others. He has been booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center. Notably, the Portland Police FIT and ECST view all gunfire aimed at community members as attempted murder.
The case also highlights ongoing efforts to reduce gun violence, such as the Portland Ceasefire initiative. Portland Mayor Keith Wilson recently noted the decline in violent crime within the city, with homicides down by 51% in the first half of 2025, crediting the work of police and community groups. These statements from Mayor Wilson were reported by the City of Portland, indicating potential success in initiatives aimed at curbing gun-related incidents.
If anyone has further information about the June shooting case, or any other unsolved felony crimes, they are urged to contact Crime Stoppers of Oregon. Cash rewards of up to $2,500 may be offered for tips that lead to an arrest, with tipsters allowed to remain anonymous, thus maintaining their absolute confidentiality in the process.
