Under the Patrol Drone Program, drones will be deployed for a variety of operations, including swifter emergency aid, more efficient searches for missing persons or suspects, and better management of traffic and crowds at public events. Their integration with the Real Time Information Center promises increased efficiency in handling public safety incidents. Notably, in previous applications for motor vehicle crash investigations, drone technology has proven to reduce road closure times by providing accurate mapping of fatal scenes, as highlighted by the Anne Arundel County Police Department in an announcement, DC News Now reported.
Ensuring public trust stands at the forefront of this expansion, with the department laying out strict guidelines. These include limiting the drones to supportive roles during crucial incidents and investigations, and prohibiting random surveillance patrols or any form of weaponization on the drones.
