Apache Junction residents are invited to mark an important milestone in their community with the upcoming 20th anniversary celebration of the Multi-Generational Center (MGC). Starting next week, on September 1, the Apache Junction Parks & Recreation department has put together a series of events, leading up to a Friday night Birthday Bash on September 5. According to an announcement from the City of Apache Junction, the festivities at the MGC will include challenges, games, rock painting, and sports activities, with a 20% discount on all memberships on the day of the bash and the following day.
Since its grand opening in fall 2005, the MGC has evolved into a cornerstone of the local community. Liz Langenbach, the city's Parks & Recreation Director and one of the officials present at the original ribbon-cutting ceremony, noted in the City of Apache Junction announcement, "The MGC serves as a vital hub within Apache Junction, fostering connection, health, and a sense of belonging for people of all ages." She remarked on the MGC's role in offering programs, spaces, and services that "create a network of shared experiences that benefit everyone."
The MGC's inauguration brought the first indoor recreation center to Apache Junction. The initiative consolidated various Parks & Recreation department programs that were previously scattered across the city into a singular locus for inclusive, family-friendly activities. The facility, besides hosting 2,220 fitness classes yearly that drew in over 20,491 participants, also includes a gymnasium, a climbing wall, and multiple purpose rooms, amongst other amenities detailed in the City of Apache Junction statement. In addition, the center has received numerous awards, reflecting its commitment to fostering community engagement and promoting health.
As attendees revel in the week-long celebration, they will also have a chance to win a one-year membership through various events and challenges held throughout the week. The MGC is more than just an avenue for fitness; it's also the home of Senior Services, facilities for reservation, program registrations, and a workplace for over 39 city staff members.
