This morning, students of Apopka High School were instructed to stay put in their classrooms due to police activity in the vicinity. The "secure hold" was a response to a police chase that ensued after a traffic stop went awry near the campus.
According to FOX 35 Orlando, Florida Highway Patrol initiated a stop on Martin Street at around 6 a.m. This quickly escalated as five individuals fled from the vehicle, instigating a search that resulted in all suspects being apprehended.
The precautionary measure, designed to ensure student safety quickly, required that all classroom doors be secured, and students and staff were to remain inside until the area was deemed safe. WESH reported the school district confirmed that normal operations have since resumed.
